The 3-Step Procreate "Sandwich" Workflow
By isolating line work from color layers, you prevent pixel bleed, ensure zero line clipping, and unlock non-destructive lighting effects. Always treat your artwork canvas like an animation cel setup.
The Line Art Base
Import the 300 DPI Transparent PNG from the Vault onto Layer 1. If using the PDF version, set this layer blend mode to Multiply so white voids become fully transparent.
Swipe two fingers right across Layer 1 to toggle Alpha Lock. This prevents accidental brush marks on your inking contours while coloring underneath.
Under-Painting Flats
Create a new layer named Flats directly underneath your locked line art. Set your top line art layer as your Reference Layer in the layer options flyout.
Drag color circles directly from your palette onto the canvas. The Reference setting allows ColorDrop fills to snap cleanly to vector bounds without touching the line art.
Atmosphere & Cosmic FX
Create layers above flats set to Clipping Mask for local shadows. Place global alien glow layers at the very top of your stack, set to Color Dodge or Add.
Apply a 2-4% Gaussian Blur to neon cyan or amber tractor beams to produce an organic cathode-ray television glow that bleeds over the black ink lines.
